We have our first math assessment approaching, and it is time to start reviewing and studying. The assessment will cover all of the skills from Unit 1 - Place Value. Wise students will review their notes in their math journals and look back over the tasks we completed during class time. The assessment will be a multi-step task which will incorporate student ability to understand numbers with decimals, write these numbers in word form, represent numbers with models, and fully explain their thinking.
When seeking clarification, students should first ask a peer. If they still need clarification, they should ask Mr. Crum. Happy studying! Homework for the following Tuesday will be posted Greetings students and parents! After a wonderful first week of the school year, in which we have reviewed the 8 Mathematical Principles (see linked document) through small group work, class discussion, and whole group problem solving, we turn our focus towards place value, decimals, and mathematical operations with decimals. Homework for the week will be due next Tuesday, August 25 by 8:15am in the class drop box outside of room 306. Students will complete 3 workbook pages from their math workbook (these are coming home on Friday, August 14, and should remain at home). Students may choose from the following workbook pages, 1-1; 1-2; 1-3; 1-4; & 1-5. Both sides of the page should be completed, the re-teaching and practice portions. Thanks, Mr. Crum
The Autobiomathography is an opening assignment to help students introduce themselves to their teacher, and their classmates. The full assignment and grading rubric are attached.
Greetings, students and parents!
I hope you are excited about beginning 5th grade! We will have a great year together. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Teddy Crum, and I have been teaching for four years in Midtown Memphis. I love teaching math, and I enjoy working with students as they grow in their knowledge and mastery of logic and systems thinking. Outside of school, I love spending time with my family. I live in Cooper-Young with my wife, Sylvia, our children, Lily and Charlie. Outside of school I like to ride my bicycle, I keep chickens in my backyard, and I love to help out around my church, First Congo, where I serve as the Moderator (Board Chair). If you live in Midtown, you will see me riding my bicycle all around, and may even want to join me on a group bicycle ride as a family for the Tour De Coop, or when we bike to dinner with Revolutions Bicycle Co-op, where my wife works as the Executive Director. Check the "Out and About" tab for rides and events. Here are a few ideas for helping your child get ready for the first days of school:
Remember, the school provides a breakfast every day, starting at 7:45am. Have a great final weekend of Summer! Mr. Crum |
